Empower Your Students: 5 Fun Ways for Preschool and Elementary Spanish Teachers to Celebrate Women’s History Month!

By, LeShawnda Fitzgerald

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, Spanish teachers have a unique opportunity to teach their students about the important contributions of women throughout history. By celebrating Women’s History Month in your preschool or elementary Spanish class, you can help your students develop a deeper appreciation for the role of women in society and inspire them to pursue their own dreams and ambitions. Here are five ideas to get you started:

Read books about women in history
One of the easiest ways to celebrate Women’s History Month in your Spanish class is to read books about women in history. You can choose books that are specifically about women from Spanish-speaking countries, or you can choose books about women from all over the world. Some great options to consider include “Frida Kahlo: A Kid’s Book About Expressing Yourself Through Art” by Mary Nhin and “Esperanza Rising” by Pam Muñoz Ryan

Create a bulletin board showcasing famous women
Another great way to celebrate Women’s History Month in your Spanish class is to create a bulletin board showcasing famous women. You can include pictures and biographies of women from all walks of life, including politicians, activists, artists, and scientists. This will help your students learn about the many different ways in which women have made a difference throughout history.

Teach your students about gender equality
Women’s History Month is a great opportunity to teach your students about gender equality. You can talk to them about the ways in which women have been discriminated against throughout history, and you can encourage them to think about ways in which they can promote gender equality in their own lives. You can also talk to them about the importance of treating everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their gender.

Have your students write or draw about women who inspire them
Another fun activity you can do to celebrate Women’s History Month in your Spanish class is to have your students write about women who inspire them. You can encourage them to choose women from all different fields, including sports, entertainment, politics, science or from their own family. This will help your students develop a deeper appreciation for the many different ways in which women can make a difference in the world.

Invite a guest speaker to talk to your class
Finally, you can celebrate Women’s History Month in your Spanish class by inviting a guest speaker to talk to your class. You can invite a female scientist, politician, artist, or activist to come and speak to your students about their experiences and their work. This will give your students a unique opportunity to learn from someone who has made a difference in the world and inspire them to pursue their own dreams and ambitions.

Celebrating Women’s History Month in your preschool or elementary Spanish class is a great way to teach your students about the important contributions of women throughout history. By reading books, creating bulletin boards, teaching about gender equality, having students write about inspiring women, and inviting guest speakers to talk to your class, you can help your students develop a deeper appreciation for the role of women in society and inspire them to pursue their own dreams and ambitions.
